Study Overview

Eurofins Alba are looking for volunteers to take part in a Shampoo Study. The study aims to analyse how well different shampoos deliver the same active anti-dandruff ingredient to the surface of the scalp. Buffer samples will be taken to analyse how much of the active ingredient was deposited onto the scalp after controlled hair washing procedures.

Visit 1: Screening, Consent and Enrolment - approximately 45 minutes

Volunteers will be invited to attend a screening appointment (see available options below). They will receive the Information Sheet and Consent Form (ICF) at least 48 hours before their visit so they have plenty of time to read about the study and ask any questions. Anyone who agrees to take part will sign the ICF during their appointment.

Our study team will assess volunteers' suitability for the study. If eligible, volunteers will be given a shampoo and conditioner to use instead of their usual hair products for one week before Visit 2. During this week, they must wash their hair at least three times (at least every other day) and do their final wash the day before Visit 2.

Visit 2: Study Procedures - approximately 2.5 hours

Volunteers must bring their own hair brush.

During Visit 2, volunteers will have their hair washed on each half of their head using two of eight test shampoos. A trained study technician will perform the half‑head washes following this procedure:

  1. The volunteer will lean back over the sink, and their hair will be parted down the centre.

  2. Both sides of the hair will be fully wet.

  3. 5 ml of the assigned shampoo will be applied to the right side of the scalp. More shampoo may be used on longer hair if needed.

  4. The technician will gently massage the shampoo into the right side of the scalp and hair for 90 seconds.

  5. The hair will be rinsed for at least 30 seconds or until all lather is gone.

  6. Steps 3–5 will be repeated once more (double wash).

  7. The same double‑wash steps (3–6) will then be done on the left side of the scalp using the second allocated shampoo.

  8. Volunteers will blow‑dry their hair.

After drying, the hair will be parted in specific areas and held with clips. A study technician will then carry out the buffer scrub procedures, and the volunteers will have a final hair wash using the shampoo dispensed after visit 1.
