Study Overview

Eurofins Alba are inviting female subjects aged between 18-65 years to take part in a study to assess the stinging potential of test materials after a single application. Analysis of the comparisons will be performed, and the stinging potential of all the study products determined.

Visit 1 - Screening

At visit 1, participants meeting the entry criteria will be screened by a Lactic Acid Sting Test (LAST) which is a widely used screening test to predict if you have sensitive skin. Subjects will steam their face using a sauna for approximately 5 minutes. After dabbing their face dry, a study technician will apply lactic acid to the fold of the nose and saline solution to opposite side using a saturated cotton tip. Subjects will score the intensity of any stinging experienced at 10 seconds, 2.5 minutes, and 5 minutes post-application using a 5-point scoring scale.

The procedure will then be repeated in the underarm. A study technician will supervise a wet shave of both underarms after which the subjects will observe a 5-minute post-shave rest period to reduce the chance of irritation being experienced as a result of the shaving procedure. A study technician will apply lactic acid to the designated axillary crease using a saturated cotton tip. The tip will be wiped back and forwards across the axillary crease three times (with back and forth counting as one repetition, and saline solution will be applied in the same manner to the opposite axilla. Subjects will score the intensity of any stinging experienced at 10 seconds, 2.5 minutes, and 5 minutes post-application.
